The Strategic Gato

Our Story

“One cat leads to another”. An unassuming quote for this truck driving veteran of 30 years. Most of my time has been spent making deliveries during overnight hours. Working in the dark and always alone, I have had numerous encounters with the nocturnal nightlife that surrounds all of us and specifically with the feline community.

Many cats at multiple locations have been a source of intriguing adventures, curiosity, and friendships. As I would make my nightly stops, I would see the same cats each time and begin to engage them, talk to them as I walked by and sometimes name them.

In one location, a white kitten with a black spot on her nose, a black spot on her paw and had a limp, not sure due to injury or born that way, was the cutest and most loving creature of the night. I named her Snowy. Every time I made a delivery at this location, I would eventually see her somewhere in the dark, sometimes having to look for her when she was startled by my truck.

It became obvious that she would place herself strategically in a position to protect herself from her surroundings or to instinctively hide to hunt. This became a common thread throughout the nighttime at various locations, different cats all doing the same thing, hiding in the night mysteriously and living in the landscape.

I began making a game of it to search for them asking myself, where is the cat? Where’s that Gato? So, for fun, whenever I found the cats, I would make a wish and wouldn’t you know it… some of my wishes started to come true! …and from there Strategic Gato was born!

As for my friend Snowy, she grew up and had kittens of her own. I was magically blessed to watch her for a few years and enjoy her family…a wish come true in a sense as I related her experiences and watched my own family grow up too.

So, when you are out there, somewhere in your life, take a moment and look around. See if you spot a cat staring at you…and if you do, make a wish, because you never know…
